How to Prepare for Upholstery Cleaning

Good news: preparation is minimal

One of the advantages of mobile upholstery cleaning is how little you need to do. We bring the equipment, the fabric-safe products, and in most cases the water. Ten minutes of light prep is genuinely all it takes — here’s what actually helps.

Clear the piece itself

Remove blankets, throw pillows you don’t want cleaned, toys, remotes, and anything wedged between cushions (this is where lost keys reappear). If cushion covers have zippers, leave them zipped — we clean covers in place to avoid shrinkage.

Create a little working room

We need about three feet of access around the piece being cleaned, plus a clear path from the door. If the couch sits against a wall, that’s fine — we can work with it or shift it slightly with your permission.

Mention the history

The most useful thing you can do costs nothing: tell us the fabric type if you know it, point out every stain, and — most importantly — mention anything you’ve already tried on it. Store-bought cleaners can change how a stain behaves, and knowing about them helps us choose the right chemistry.

Plan for drying, not disruption

Most upholstery dries within 10–24 hours depending on fabric, airflow, and humidity. Plan to use a different seat that evening, crack a window, and run a ceiling fan if you have one. That’s the entire disruption.

Pets and kids

Curious pets and small helpers are welcome to supervise from a distance — but the equipment is loud, so most cats disappear for the duration. Keep pets off the fabric until it’s fully dry.
